Parody Pastiche

My father’s family name being Pirrip, and my Christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer or more explicit than Pip. So, I called myself Pip, and came to be called Pip. In other words I am not too intelligent and I can't say my own name but no-one wants to tell me how odd I am.

The shape of the letters on my father’s, gave me an odd idea that he was a square, stout, dark man, with curly black hair. So just to fill you in I imagine people from the letters on their tombstones, and still no one calls me "special". From the character and turn of the inscription, ‘Also Georgiana Wife of the Above,’ I drew a childish conclusion that my mother was freckled and sickly, apparently I also have mother issues. There were five little stone lozenges, each about a foot and a half long, which were arranged in a neat row beside their grave, and were sacred to the memory of five little brothers of mine - who gave up trying to get a living, exceedingly early in that universal struggle - I am indebted for a belief I religiously entertained that they had all been born on their backs with their hands in their trousers-pockets, and had never taken them out in this state of existence. Now apparently babies where suits and put there hands in there pockets, seriously is no one is going to tell me I am slightly odd?

Reflection on Social Graph

The narrative timeline my group chose to explore was a graph of social status for the characters; Pip, Joe, Magwitch, Miss Havasham and Jaggers from Great Expectations. We made a number of interesting observations such as Jaggers stays the same through out the book (as does Miss Havasham), by the end of the book Joe had gone up in social status, Magwitch was the lowest of all the characters and had a slight rise in chapter 35 (1822) when he came into money and helped Pip, finally Pip had many ups and downs in social climbing however he ends up a lot higher then when he started. From this exercise I learned how much Pip actually went through in the book and how because of his highs and lows in social climbing I can really see why sometimes he found it hard to connect with Joe, to actually try and get Estella to fall for him and also how he should have made his relationships with Magwitch and Miss Havasham, and finally how he would have felt really guilty as he left Joe and Mrs Joe behind socially and this all would have been very hard.

Aptitude
Descriptor
Linguistic
From what I can tell Joe would not have a very high linguistic aptitude as he did not go to school as his dad was a gambler,
"‘Didn’t you ever go to school, Joe, when you were as little as me?’
 ‘No, Pip.’"
Logical
Considering that Joe is a blacksmith he must be able to think ahed other wise he would be a very bad blacksmith, "Joe was a well-knit characteristic- looking blacksmith"
CulturalI cannot imagine that Joe would be cultural as he did not go to school,
"‘Didn’t you ever go to school, Joe, when you were as little as me?’
 ‘No, Pip.’"
PhysicalAs Joe is a black smith he must be quite strong and sporty.
SpiritualAs Joe has tried to not go to church before and does not like it I could imagine that he is not that spiritual, "Joe and I going to church, therefore, must have been a moving spectacle fore compassionate minds"

MoralJoe seems to make sure that pip is always ok, even though he is not Pip's father. From this I think that he has good morals, however he may only be doing it because Pip has no one so it is kind of his responsibility.
PersonalJoe seems very aware of what is going around himself and what is happeneing with pip
SocialJoe does not seem that social as it seems as though mrs.Joe is always making the social arrangements.

Erasure Poetry

This is my erasure poetry. I have taken page 18 from the book Great Expectations. I then chose the words to make a poem/story and then "erased" the rest of the words. If you cannot read the picture, it says," If you can recommend your time for a little while perhaps you'll mention my sister, you looked at her solemnly as if you moved, then when i was your age i bolted.

Researching sentances

Our task was to use resources readerched by another group of students to write a 10-point biography. The challenges that we had included:

• Access
• There was too much information
• There was not enough range in links.
• Some of the sources were not reliable and looks dodgey
